Vic: Animal liberationists call on RSPCA chief to resign
Animal liberationists have demanded the resignation of RSPCA national president HUGH
WIRTH over what they say is a cosy relationship with Australia's biggest egg producer.
Animal Liberation Victoria director PATTY MARK says Pace Farms, which has a barn-laid
egg brand endorsed by the RSPCA, houses its chickens in appalling conditions.
Ms MARK says the RSPCA receives royalties from the sale of the eggs and Pace Farms
has also given the society $35,000 in sponsorship money.
She says the cosy financial deal between the RSPCA and Pace Farms is an international disgrace.
Ms MARK says recent undercover rescues at a Pace Farms property in north east Melbourne
have revealed suffering hens in the barn-laid sheds.
A Pace Farms spokeswoman says the allegations are false.
Dr WIRTH could not be contacted for comment.
